City of Heroes is adopting a DDO-esque free-to-play hybrid model.

Subscribers can stay on as VIPs (access to all the stuff currently included with the game, plus free points to spend in the store each month and other perks) or switch to free-to-play and buy future content separately. And they're changing the Veteran Rewards program to something that makes a LOT more sense. I'm actually kinda psyched for this shift.

I'm just look forward to content that isn't running the Incarnate Trials over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Katie, you can probably use that free month subscription to upgrade and get the Going Rogue expansion with paying $30 for it once this goes live.

I've been scared to get into the Incarnate stuff with my 50, honestly. I did the initial unlock stuff and picked up some cred during the big Praetorian invasion but haven't done any dedicated Trials or TFs or whatever.

They're not bad, they're actually challenging and you have to do more than just wail on a sack of hit points. They can seem intimidating, but just pay attention to the cut scene dialog and the league leaders and you'll do okay. Even with a character that has no incarnate stuff unlocked.

The only problem is that there are only two trials to run right now and I'm sick of running them to unlock the powers and to get the components to craft the powers. It's not bad, really, it's just I need a break from it. And unless you want everything now, doing one run a day is all you need since they give some special merits only once every 20 hours.

But over all, unlocking everything but the pets is worth it. The powers look cool, they help fill in gaps in builds and add procs to powers. The pets, well, they're adding more, but I couldn't really care about them outside of the level shift they provide.

If you want some night I can log onto a character and we can join a league and I can help explain what people are doing during the trials.

Hmmm, yeah, that might help, thanks. I'd just have to figure out when I could do it...I have a fair amount on my plate just now.

No problem and no rush figuring out when you're free. Your 50 is on Freedom now or is it on Virtue? Either way, I've got 50's on both.

She's back on Virtue. I just took her to Freedom for the big Praetorian event.

Ah, got it. Oh well, you don't get to witness the blazingly brilliant power of Dazzling Dynamo during the trials. I'll just have to stick with the above average power of Dr. Joseph Mallory, the slightly surprising power of Atomic Arrower, the remotely remarkable power of Brinstone Sentinel or the funky fresh power of Foxy Roxy Brown.

I don't think I'll buy it, but it was good for a grin.

I was just checking out the panel list for PAX Prime and noticed this:

Quote:
Journeyquest Season 1 Showing and Panel
Raven Theatre
Saturday 10:00am - 11:30am
From the makers of The Gamers, and Dorkness Rising comes the 1st Season of JourneyQuest! See the new fantasy based web series created by Writer/Director Matt Vancil. Panel and Q & A afterwords discussing the pros and cons of working outside the studio system, how to go about releasing a web series, how to land major Hollywood talent to give your project a step up, and exciting news about Season 2!

Cool! I will definitely add that to my web series watch list :)

Haha, for a second I thought that said Johnny Quest and wondered why you were so excited about it Katie. But upon actual reading, that sounds cool.
